 “It’s been an interesting ride,” says blogger Juan Tornoe founder of
Hispanic Trending – a Latino marketing and advertising blog. “When I
arrived here almost 7 years a go, I immediately noticed first hand that
most American businesses was missing the mark when trying to target
Latinos. Both at the consumer and customer service level many have no
clue about how to treat us differently or deal with us — at both ends
of the spectrum: whether you’re a 4-th generation Latino or a newcomer
like myself.”
Today, Juan scours the web daily handpicking relevant stories and themes, and he’s quickly become an important opinion leader in Latino marketing circles. His philosophy is simple: “In order to market to Latinos you need to understand them better.” The Guatemala native didn’t start out as a business executive however. “My background is very weird,” he explains. “I have a pre-med degree. But when I started opening people up, I said, ‘I can’t do this — I don’t like blood.’ So I went into business and got an MBA.”
