Myth:
High Protein/Low Carb Diets are a safe and effective weight loss method.

Fact:
The majority of your weight loss will be water and in that case, there is the risk of dehydration. Your cravings for carbohydrates and sweets will increase.  The longer you stay on this diet, the more prone you will become to binge eating, water retention, and weight gain.

Myth:
Fat-free foods are healthy and you won’t gain weight from these foods.

Fact:
When food companies say that they have taken the fat out of food, it is usually replaced with sugar and artificial ingredients. Fat intake is actually essential for daily bodily functions. Fat is important for dietary nutrition. It aids vitamin absorption, healthy nerve development, hormonal balance, and sustained energy. When you restrict your fat intake, The fats that you should stay away from are trans-fatty acids. These are normally labeled as “hydrogenated” or “partially hydrogenated fats” under ingredients.


Myth:
Eating late at night promotes weight gain.

Fact:
Verdad!
Eating balanced meals and snacks every 3-4 hours can ensure proper usage of calorie intake no matter what time of day. However, eating more at night, when calories aren’t needed as much because you’re not as active, can lower metabolism and increase fat storage, which in turn leads to weight gain.

Myth:
Restricting you calorie intake is the best way to lose weight.

Fact:
Falso! What you’ll lose first following this diet is water and muscle. Your body will be yearning for carbohydrates and fat. Your metabolism will decrease while the risk of binge eating and gaining weight increases. Your energy level will significantly decrease. Women are prone to losing their menstrual cycles and having higher levels of irritability if they stay on this diet for too long.

Myth:
Eat only 3 meals a day and no snacking allowed!

Fact:
Falso! Optimal energy distribution will come with three meals a day accompanied by 1-3 balanced snacks every 3-4 hours. Having healthy snacks throughout the day will help your blood sugar stay level. If you leave too much time in between meals, you face the danger of overeating or making the choice of eating unhealthy meals, which will increase you body’s ability to store fat. Now, this doesn’t mean you can reach for that bag of Extra Cheesy Cheetos. Try slices of apples and cheese for a snack complete with fiber, vitamins, minerals, protein, and healthy fat. Don’t forget to stay away from the hydrogenated fats!
