In the Bay Area and looking for a young and fresh tattoo artist? Ruben Ramirez is a mexicano tattoo artist on the rise!
Nunu Balazos, the Latino Picasso a.k.a. Ruben Ramirez, is a 20-year old Mexican-American tattoo artist from Daly City, California. During his senior year in high school he started his apprenticeship at a tattoo shop. He decided to go to art school after high school but left after he realized that it was not the proper environment for his artistic abilities. As Ruben says, "Art is my life. My state of mind is open and my style is my own." Ruben is right about having his unique style of art, especially in his tattoo designs. I'd say that his tattoos are a culmination of his cultural background. His art is what he is: Mexican-American.
Jade: When did you discover your artistic skills? Ruben: I never thought I was that good of an artist but in elementary school people used to always ask me to draw sh*t for them. I guess it all started from there!
Jade: What sparked your interest in tattoos? Ruben: I used to be a graffiti artist informally to put my name out there so people could see my artwork. Jade: So you always knew you were interested in tattoos or just art in general? Ruben: Just art in general.
